Lockdown 2.0: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade

Lockdown 2.0: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade

Ideas to keep your spirits up and your mind and body happily occupied during lockdown

Published by Lucie Clark for Homebodii

Here at Homebodii, we fully subscribe to and aim to live by the following motivational saying:

Wake up in the morning and decide to be in a good mood and that it’s going to be a beautiful day.”

And that’s how we’re approaching this latest lockdown, with a positive can-do attitude. This time at home provides an opportunity to reset, rest and get creative at home.

Stuck for ideas of what to do during lockdown? We’ve got you covered with a comprehensive list of lockdown ideas to lift your spirits and keep you busily and happily occupied.

Stay home but make it fashion

  • Organise your wardrobe, you’ll find forgotten pieces you’ll love having back in your sartorial line-up
  • Host a virtual pyjama party with your best gal pals
  • Play dress ups with all your favourite clothes, just because you’re not going out doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel fabulous!
  • Learn how to master pyjama dressing and wear it to WFH with style
  • Make cocktails in your most glamorous pyjamas and matching slippers

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realise they were the big things.”

— Kurt Vonnegut

Be a domestic goddess

  • Bake yourself happy! A plate of freshly baked cookies always brings a smile
  • Discover how to pickle, preserve lemons, make chilli oil or fruit jam
  • And of course, make lemonade out of lemons…

Self-care 7 days a week

  • Pamper yourself with DIY remedies
  • Grab a glass of wine or a cup of herbal tea and soak in the tub for as long as you like
  • Do a hair mask and a face mask at the same time
  • Learn how to do your own mani and pedi
  • Work out online with your favourite fitness guru

Declutter and spring clean

  • Marie Kondo your kitchen cupboards (who doesn’t love a label maker?!)
  • Wash your make-up brushes
  • Clean out your beauty cabinet and share a proud Shelfie on social
  • Set up your WFH space properly (your laptop on your lap in front of the TV sounds awesome but maybe isn’t the most productive work space)

Support and connect

  • Support your local restaurants, order takeaway, make it an occasion by lighting a candle and setting the table
  • Host a virtual dinner party with a group of friends or your family over Zoom (optional extra: dress up in your chicest sleepwear)
  • Send a gift to a friend, family member or work buddy just because
  • Text friends you haven’t spoken to recently and see how they’re going
  • If you find something funny, inspiring or motivating, share it with your friends and family

Play and do

  • Dust off those boardgames and actually play them
  • Pick up a classic book (anything by Jane Austen will instantly transport to you another romantic time and place)
  • Create a mood board
  • Learn more about your star sign ( check out our astrology range, here)
  • Listen to a podcast. For inspiring career stories try How I Built Thisor Second Life Pod; if you’re into science try Science vs; if you like interesting facts try  Stuff You Should Knowand Everything Little Thing;for interesting personal stories try Heavyweight;and for laughs try Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend

Lounge, a lot

  • Slip into your go-to loungewearand wear it on the lounge with a cup of tea in one hand and the remote in the other
  • Nap, a lot

Take inspiration from our grandmothers

  • Learn to knit
  • Write a journal
  • Learn the beautiful art of calligraphy and write someone a letter

For anyone (everyone?) who feels like lockdown and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has interrupted their plans and their life, remember, our lives will return to normal again and in the meantime, reach out, connect, learn, love.

Big love to you all,
